1. Fire and Water: Late last week we found out that the Santa Fe National Forest near my grandmother's cabin was on fire. We are planning a vacation there in July, so we've been watching the progress closely all week. It is only a few miles away, and the whole area is basically closed. Meanwhile, Monday I woke up to local radio personalities talking about the rain in Oklahoma City. In my groggy morning state, I turned the radio off and made a note to take the Subaru to work since it is better for rainy driving. When I got in the car there were only a few raindrops on my windshield. When I turned on the radio, all anyone was talking about was how all of Oklahoma City was completely flooded and the rain was coming down in record style. I-35 was shutdown in several places, evacuations were beginning in one area, and basically anything north of I-235 was a lake. Well, the weather folks around here to like to exaggerate, and I saw some light rain on my way to work. But then I started checking the news websites:
I saw a few better pics the day of, but this one is pretty fun, too. 10 inches, mostly in a few hours.
I should note that in Norman we got enough rain to water the grass, and that's about it. No flooding at all.
Our cabin is in Calf Canyon, shown in the top left of the picture, between the fire and the forest road.
2. Pizza Love: We had the BEST pizza last night... I mean, it was Hideaway, so of course it was awesome, but it was amazing even by their standards. Gavin ordered it and so I'm not exactly sure what was on it, but there was a LOT of garlic (in delicious chunks), red onion in tiny chunks, sausage, pepperoni, olives (on my half), and somehow the cheese was just extra amazingly super delicious, there was probably fresh basil, too. Fortunately he got a large, and we still have half after stuffing ourselves last night. So I have a wonderful lunch to look forward to!!! Mmm... I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!
3. Scrapbooking and Card Making: I'm such a scrapbook addict that I am now pulling pictures from my freshman year at OU out of a photo album and scrapbooking them. I hate those sticky albums, and it has been fun looking back. I'm also trying to give myself a challenge and use mostly leftover paper that has been sitting around for a while and trying to use up some of the "scraps" that I keep rather than cutting up new paper for picture backing. I'm only a few pages in, so we'll see how far I can get this way. Last weekend I also had fun making cute cards for various occasions:
This was for my sister's birthday (guess how old she is...). I am not sure if I like the bling, but felt like it needed something without it.
Just playing with a theme. Simple and straightforward. Which do you like best??
A few other cards cannot yet be displayed, since their intended owners have yet to receive them...4. Mandatory Maternity Memo: Pregnancy is starting to affect my ability to move comfortably now. As I've got a LONG way to go, this is a little intimidating. Examples: Getting in and out of the mock-cockpit pilot's seat was exhausting on Friday (I was in the lab on and off for about 7 hours though). I can probably still pull myself out of the pool at the side, but I've been using the stairs anyway. My legs and feet are tired and sore at the end of the day, no matter what I've been doing.
5. Happy Father's Day: although, to my knowledge, any regular readership this blog has is limited to ladies... in case any dads or dads to be drop by, "HAPPY FATHER'S DAY"! I have yet to get a Father-to-Be's Day gift for Gavin, but I have a couple of ideas. Which, obviously, I can't share yet.... (-:
Have a great weekend (or week)!!

Yay five interesting things!!! I like the card with hello at the bottom right but I also like the ellipse... =)
ReplyDeleteWe got pizza from Dominos of all places last night and while it was surprisingly good, my favorite part was the little bar on the website that told me when my pizza was baking, being quality controlled, and then out on delivery. =)
