scrapbooks

I think I'm attempting to do as much crafting as possible to make up for the fact that I know I'll have to put projects on hold after the baby comes.
This project I started last weekend and finished this weekend. It obviously needs pictures and journaling, but I have a future weekend plan for that... (-:

It is a velvet accordion album project from SEI. I've never worked with velvet before, so this was a pretty cool project. I had some issues trying to get stuff to stick to the velvety side, which is partly why I didn't finish last week. Today I bought fabric glue at Hobby Lobby, and it seems to be doing the trick! Huzzah! (-: I also incorporated a few more brads than the original project had with it, because they really worked to hold things on. I basically just followed the template for this project, but I definitely would be willing to use velvet in the future now that I know how versatile it is. I used inks, rub-ons, embossing, brads, glue, stamps, and supposedly journaling with a pen will work well, too.

Several weeks ago I purchased a D-ring scrapbook album from American Crafts that basically just had a plain brown chip-board cover with fabric covering the spine. The idea is that you get to decorate the outside of the album. I have been sitting and staring at this album cover wondering how I can decorate it. For some reason I was rather intimidated - how to make things stick well, needing something tough that will stand up to jostling... etc. I finally decided to just jump in.
During my Hobby Lobby run I found some spray on Elmer's adhesive that I decided to give a try. It was PERFECT for this project! I covered the fabric part of the album with painter's tape (it was handy), and then sprayed the adhesive on the chip board. I pressed the paper on and it stuck down evenly with no wrinkling! I then pressed ribbon down along the edges (because the paper wasn't quite big enough to cover the chipboard). I used the fabric glue to adhere the edge of the ribbon to the paper and to itself. I then used the Cricut to cut out "Palfreyman 2010" and just used regular glue to stick that to the album cover. I had some "Bling" stickers for the corners... and I think I'm done. Depending on how well the letters/stickers/ribbon stay on, I may be looking for some sort of a varnish to cover it all with. Or maybe just a plastic album cover. The inside covers and back all have the same paper and ribbon.
