Gavin has a thing about penguins and a couple of years ago I found the penguin ornament on the top left at The Candy Basket (local candy and gifts shop). It was so cute that I decided to start giving Gavin penguin ornaments each Christmas as a fun little tradition and to add to our tree. The penguin below it is from last year (though the picture is from this year...). I will include a picture of this year's ornament in my album, but obviously it can't be included yet, as it hasn't been given! (-:
As an extension of this tradition, I found a really cute Reindeer ornament that I'm giving to Corwyn this year. So hopefully he can get a Reindeer ornament each year, too.
The ornament in the picture on the top right is from a series of Disney Hallmark ornaments that a coworker gives out to all the single ladies each year. Although at first this seemed pretty creepy (since I had met him once the first time I got an ornament and had no idea what was going on), it is very thoughtful and less creepy when you get to know him. I have quite a few nice ornaments from him, though obviously I'm no longer getting them.
Behind Pooh, you can see a curled ribbon. When I moved into our house in 2004 and got my first real tree, we didn't have any ornaments. So I bought a bunch of ribbon and created these ornaments in red and blue. They are simple and cheap, and beginning to look a little ratty, but I love them because they bring back the spirit of that first Christmas. So each year I decorate the tree with a few of them.
The ornament on the bottom right is a sand-dollar that we used in our wedding. I took a bunch of the starfish and sand-dollars from our wedding decorations, drilled holes in them, sprayed them with a glitter varnish, and gave them as Christmas gifts in 2007. I kept a few and they are some of my favorite ornaments - pretty, simple, and remind me of a wonderful day in my life! (-:
